Thanks to all of our prospective volunteers who came out to our Information Sessions earlier this week! Our Coordinators were thrilled to meet everyone, and are even more excited for you to Register this weekend. That’s right, our Registrationis this Sunday morning at 8AM online! Be sure to visit the Registration page for more information on how to volunteer with ASB.

In the meantime, if you have questions about ASB, Registration, or you’re in the mood to win some cool prizes, come to ASB Trivia and Registration Q&A at BU Central on Saturday, January 28th at 9pm!

We’ll be giving away awesome prizes – including a BU Hockey Jersey, a pair of Bose Headphones, and (drumroll) a First-Choice Trip! That’s right, one lucky winner will be able to select their trip THAT NIGHT!

So, if you want to have a shot at winning a spot in ASB and avoiding the 8AM wakeup for Registration, join us! The event will be followed by a Q&A about ASB and Registration, hosted by the Program Managers.

It’s that time of year – time to pick your ASB trip for Spring 2012! Feeling all ready to register? Don’t have a clue where to go? Either way, be sure to check out our information events this week:

Information Sessions: Tuesday & Wednesday, January 24th and 25th at 8PM in the GSU Backcourt. Come meet the Coordinators for each trip and ask them any and all questions you may have! Check the Facebook event for more details!

ASB Registration 2012: Attend our Information Sessions and visit our Registration tab for detailed information about Registration, including a simple guide to the process! Here’s the Facebook event for Registration, just in case you want that as well.

Registration is Coming!

In less than 11 days registration for Alternative Spring Breaks 2012 will be complete! Yep, that’s right, registration opens at 8:00AM on Sunday, January 29th on the Community Service Center website. Make sure you set your alarm clocks early and are ready to click away when registration opens, for ASB has a history of filling up in mere minutes!

Now, what if you still don’t know where you’d like to go for ASB? You’ve already checked out the trip blogs, but what next? You can head over to one of our two ASB Information Sessions next week! The info sessions are on January 24th and 25th, and they will take place in the GSU Backcourt at 8:00PM. At these info sessions you have the opportunity to chat with all 74 of the ASB Coordinators are learn about each trip in person. It will be a great opportunity for you to ask any last-minute questions you might have about anything ASB related!

What a Talented Group of Cos We Have

If we were to describe the ASB Coordinators in one word, we would say talented. After last night’s BU ASB Night of Talent, we’re not sure if there are any ASB Co’s without hidden talents. We have singers, dancers, comedians, magicians, you name it! Want to go to Des Moines, Iowa with an ASB CO who can sing better than Bon Iver? Done. How about going to Maine with an ASB CO who can give David Blaine a run for his money? Easy.

Our Night of Talent was a huge success! Taking place at BU Central on Tuesday, ASB CO’s and friends took to the stage to give some unforgettable performances. Performers included The Callbacks, Chordially Yours, The Bostones, Step About Boston, and tons of other talented ASB CO’s! The night included door prizes where two attendees won a BU hoodie and a BU hockey jersey. That hoodie may come in handy if you’re heading to a chillier locale for your ASB trip…

Speaking of ASB trips, have you decided where you want to go for ASB yet? The best way to find out more info is by stalking all of our trip blogs at. We’re all so excited to tell you more about our trips and express our excitement! Feel free to email any ASB CO’s if you want more information on a specific trip. ASB Presents: A Night of Talent

Hey there ASB Dinos!

Tomorrow night Alternative Spring Breaks will be hosting “A Night of Talant“, a fundraiser concert, in BU Central at 7:30PM. There will be performances by a number of different BU performance groups, such as The Bostones and Step About Boston, to entertain you all. Even more exciting: a lot of the ASB Coordinators will be unveiling their talents. That’s right, the ASB Cos will be singing, dancing, and even performing magic tricks!

To cap off the evening two lucky attendees will win a BU Hockey Jersey and a BU hoodie! So come on down to BU Central, take a break from studying, and enjoy ASB’s Night of Talent!

The ASB Coordinators Keep Busy

Hello everyone and welcome back from Thanksgiving break! We hope you had a food-filled break from classes! Now that we’re back on campus, the ASB Coordinators are working hard to continue planning for their trips. Last week, all of the ASB Coordinators joined together in cleaning up Agganis Arena after the BU Hockey game against Vermont. In addition to BU winning the game, we raised hundreds of dollars for the ASB program! We’re really excited to put that money towards the our trips this Spring! This Saturday some of our members will be participating in BU’s Amazing Race and we hope to claim the prize! We’ll keep you posted on what happens during the Race!

And mark your calendar for Tuesday, December 6th because we’ll be having a fundraiser concert in BU Central that features multiple BU performance groups as well as many talented ASB Coordinators! Some Exciting ASB Updates!

Interested in learning more about the 37 ASB trips for spring break 2012? ASB trip blogs are now underway! Check out the 2012 Trip Blogs menu to meet this year’s coordinators and discover which volunteer organization interests you most. As we get closer to spring break, these blogs will be a great way to stay updated on your favorite trips.

If you’re interested in meeting some program managers and coordinators in person, come to the CSC’s 25^th Birthday celebration on Friday, November 18^th at 7pm under GCB 750 Comm. Ave. Don’t forget to mark December 6^thon your calendars! ASB will be hosting a special event that night, bringing together on-campus groups with our talented coordinators to fundraise for the 2012 trips. Stay tuned for more event
details.

Last but not least! Coordinators and program managers officially voted for this year’s ASB theme on Monday’s meeting. And the winner is (drum roll, please)…..Dinosaurs!
In the coming weeks, we’ll be prehistorically promoting ASB and designing some totally Triassic t-shirts for our volunteers. Remember, just because it’s extinct doesn’t mean it’s out of style…Here is a t-shirt ideas featuring one of our very own ASB Coordinators:

The New ASB Coordinators Get Started!

This past weekend the 74 ASB Coordinators had their first ASB bonding experience volunteering harvesting carrots and beets at The Food Project in Lincoln, MA. They’ve now all been assigned their ASB trips and will spend the next few months preparing for the 37 ASB trips around the US.

You know what that means? Trip blogs are coming back! Starting next week the ASB Coordinators will begin blogging about their ASB trips. Once again you’ll be able to meet the coordinators and follow their journey as an ASB Coordinator all the way up to spring break.

Until then, feel free to cruise around the rest of the ASB blog. Check out the Leadership tab to meet your Program Managers or Committee Leaders, or visit the FAQ section to discover the basics of ASB. We know many of you can’t wait to decide what trip you want to register for, but you have plenty of time to figure that out. Registration will not be until January after winter break. We’re just as excited as you are for ASB, and check back soon for the trip blogs!

Coordinator Decisions!

Congratulations to our new ASB Coordinators! Decisions have been emailed out as of around 8PM on Monday evening.

Please email the ASB Program Managers ASAP at altbreak@bu.edu if you have not received a decision letter via email.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our applicants – this year’s pool was especially strong, making our decisions very difficult. The excitement and enthusiasm that everyone has shown for ASB has been awesome, and has made us especially proud to be involved with this great service project. It was a privilege to meet you all, and we wish everyone the best of luck with the future! We are excited to work with this great group of rock stars, and are looking forward to seeing everyone at this weekend’s retreat!
